We visited Taipei in March 2024 for an event and extended our stay to explore the beautiful city.
Taipei, the vibrant capital of Taiwan, is a mesmerizing fusion of modernity and tradition.
Towering skyscrapers like the iconic Taipei 101 dominate the skyline, offering breathtaking views of the bustling city below. The lively night markets, brimming with delicious street food and unique crafts, showcase the rich culinary heritage and local culture.
With its friendly atmosphere and a blend of old and new, Taipei promises an unforgettable experience for all who visit.

Where to Stay
We chose an Airbnb in Kunming Street. It’s a lively area and very close to Ximending, famous for its vibrant streets and shopping.
Itinerary
Day 1: Songshan Cultural and Creative Park – Taipei 101 Observation Deck and Mall – Xiangshan – Linjian Night Market
Start your day at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, a hub for art and design. Explore the various exhibitions, shops, and cafes around.
Next, head to the iconic Taipei 101. Take the high-speed elevator to the observation deck for breathtaking views of the city. Afterward, explore the mall located within the tower, where you can shop for souvenirs or enjoy a meal.
For a bit of exercise and stunning sunset views, hike up Xiangshan (Elephant Mountain). The trail is well-maintained and offers one of the best panoramic views of Taipei, especially with Taipei 101 in the foreground.

End your day at Linjian Night Market, where you can indulge in local street food. Try popular dishes like stinky tofu and bubble tea while soaking in the lively atmosphere.
Day 2: Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall – Longshan Temple – Ximending
Begin your day at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, a significant historical site surrounded by beautiful gardens and ponds. Explore the exhibits that detail Taiwan’s history. (Open from 9 AM to 6 PM)
Next, visit Longshan Temple, a stunning temple that honors both Buddhist and Taoist deities. Take your time to appreciate its intricate architecture and vibrant atmosphere.
Enjoy lunch at Din Tai Fung, famous for its delicious dumplings.
Spend your evening in Ximending, known as Taipei’s shopping district. Stroll through pedestrian streets filled with eclectic shops, street performers, and vibrant nightlife. This area is perfect for people-watching and enjoying local snacks.
Day 3: Day trip to Yehliu, Juifen and Shifen
Take a day trip to explore some of Taiwan’s most picturesque spots:
- Yehliu Geopark: Start your day at Yehliu to see unique rock formations shaped by erosion.
- Jiufen: Next, head to Jiufen, an old mining town famous for its narrow streets lined with tea houses and shops. Enjoy stunning views of the coastline.
- Shifen: Finally, visit Shifen to see its famous waterfall and release sky lanterns along the railway tracks. Don’t forget to try some local snacks here!
Return to Taipei in the evening.

Day 4: National Palace Museum – Beitou Hot Spring Museum and Thermal Valley – Guandu Temple = Shilin Night Market
Visit the National Palace Museum, home to one of the largest collections of Chinese art and artifacts in the world. Allocate several hours to fully appreciate its extensive exhibits.
After lunch, take a trip to Beitou, known for its hot springs. Visit the Beitou Hot Spring Museum to learn about the area’s history. You can even enjoy a soak in one of the public or private hot springs or thermal baths.
End your trip at Shilin Night Market, Taipei’s largest night market, where you can enjoy more street food and shop for last-minute souvenirs.
Tips for Your Trip:
- Transportation: Taipei’s MRT system is efficient and easy to navigate. Consider getting an EasyCard for convenient travel.
- Weather: Check the weather forecast before your trip; Taipei can be rainy. We went in March and had to carry an umbrella everyday.
- Language: While many signs are in English, learning a few basic Mandarin phrases can enhance your experience. Google Translate is your friend.
- Cash: While credit cards are widely accepted, it’s good to have some cash on hand for street food vendors.
